What To Expect from Achieving Stars Therapy?
Q: If we choose Achieving Stars Therapy for ABA treatment, what will our journey look like and what can our family expect?
A:
From my role coordinating programmes at Achieving Stars Therapy I want to give you a clear roadmap so you know exactly how we will work together and what you should expect.
Step 1: Intake and Assessment
We begin with a phone or online consultation and then schedule an in-home visit. We gather your child’s history, review any previous evaluations and clarify your family goals.
During the in-home assessment we observe your child in their typical routine and collect baseline data: communication attempts, social interactions, disruptive behaviours, daily living tasks.
If necessary we conduct a Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) to identify triggers and functions behind behaviours of concern.
Step 2: Programme Design
Our BCBA develops a customised plan with measurable objectives and selects a mix of settings: home, community, possibly school collaboration. We determine therapy hours based on your child’s need and current research shows that higher treatment dose and longer duration correlate with better adaptive behaviour outcomes. This is a good background on What to expect from ABA Therapy?
Step 3: Implementation
Sessions begin with carefully matched RBTs in the home environment. Every session is supervised by the BCBA and we collect session data, graph progress, and hold review meetings. Your involvement matters: we train you as a caregiver so skills generalise across settings and become part of daily life.
Step 4: Progress Review and Adaptation
Periodically (every 3-6 months) we formally review progress with you: we look at data, evaluate goal attainment, and plan next steps. In one case I managed a five-year-old with minimal communication and frequent tantrums. After 11 months of intensive in-home ABA (20 hrs/week) under our supervision the child’s independent requests rose from 2 per day to ~12 per day and tantrums dropped from 4 per day to less than 1 per week.
For you as parents: Be prepared: meaningful change takes consistent effort and timeYour role is critical: consistency at home, feedback during reviews, aligning with our team.
We prioritise transparency: you will have access to progress updates, meet with your BCBA, and we will collaborate with your child’s school when appropriateIf you're looking for a therapy provider who understands the day-to-day realities of parenting a child with autism, we would be honored to walk this journey with you.
